Grand Prix Vegas Practice – Sealed Pool #001

A sea of tables spreads out across the cavernous room. A voice rings out above the din of conversation, “Check the list against the pool that you have been passed. Once you confirm that it is complete, you may begin deck building. If you have any issues, please call a judge.” I open up the folded list and start flipping through the stack of cards that accompany it. After a quick check to see if there is any money in the pool, I settle in and ask the big question… “What the heck do I build out of this?”

This scenario is only eight days away, within the desert confines of Las Vegas, Nevada sits Cashman Center, home to Grand Prix Las Vegas which as of yesterday stands as the second largest Magic Grand Prix in history! That is with pre-registrations only, and a solid week still to register! The format of GPVegas is Modern Masters Limited, which means that day one will be Modern Masters Sealed. Aside from reading articles, watching videos on Youtube, and listening to Podcasts, the best way to prepare for this tournament is practice, practice, practice!!! Modern Masters is a limited release set, and after a week of being on the market, it is getting harder and harder to find, and if we can find it, the cost is outrageous. I’m all for buying packs, but each practice sealed pool would cost $60 or more! At that cost the price of practice is just too much. For me the answer was simple, on my iPad I have an app called Decked Drafter which lets me practice drafting against bots, open sealed pools, build decks, and even test them out (gold fishing).

In preparation for what will likely be the biggest GP in history, I will be running many, many Modern Masters sealed pools and drafts, and I thought that a good way to get some feedback and interaction would be to post some of them here. I would love feedback, the decks that you would build with this same pool, discussion, etc… on the sealed pools and decks that I post.

Just a quick note, linking to each of these individual cards takes a lot of time, and if I’m going to do one of these each day for the next week, I think that I will just link to the Modern Masters search on Gatherer. I think it will be more effective than clicking in each individual card and it will save me a lot of time as well. Here’s the link: Modern Masters. This time, since I already did all the work, I’ll leave the individual cards linked as well.
